Matt Chapman

Best aerobatic pilot in the USA!
Matt Chapman won the Silver and Bronze medals, and the Hillard Trophy in the 1998 World Aerobatic Championships, held in Trencin, Slovakia. Matt was the highest-finishing U.S. pilot in the event, placing third for the Men's Team. It's been 18 years since a U.S. pilot has placed at a World Contest.

In addition, Matt has performed at Oshkosh, Sun n' Fun, and for ESPN, Fox Sports Network, Real TV, TLC's Amazing America, and Speed Vision.

And you can see Matt Chapman perform at the annual Colonial Flying Corps Museum Annual Benefit Airshow at New Garden Airport (June 11, 2006).

Matt has called New Garden Airport home since he first learned to fly in 1979. He has over 14,000 hours in the air (including more than 2500 hours in aerobatic flight).
During his career in aviation, Matt Chapman has worked as a flight instructor, charter pilot, air ambulance pilot, corporate pilot, and he is now a First Officer for American Airlines, flying a MD-80. He also enjoys building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters. He lives in Kennett Square, PA, with his wife, Patti.

Matt Chapman and his CAP 231EX
Matt's airplane is a Mudry CAP 231EX, one of only six built and the only one in the U.S.
Unique, French, and fast -- the Mudry CAP 231EX is one of six in the world, and the only one in the U.S. The wings were built by Walter Extra in Germany exclusively for Mudry and the 231 airplane. The marriage of French and German technology results in an agile, nimble, and powerful airplane. Weighing only 1300 pounds, with a wing span of 24 feet, it is capable of a top speed of 240 mph and a grueling 10 positive and 10 negative Gs. The 231EX has a roll rate in excess of 400 degrees per second. It is powered by a Lycoming IO-580 engine producing 330 horsepower to a high-tech 4-blade Hartzell Kevlar propeller.

A championship pilot and a championship airplane -- These two thoroughbreds fuse into a single entity, creating a breathtaking performance that blends precision aerobatic maneuvers with tumbles and gyroscopic figures seen only in Europe until now.

Matt's non-stop program is designed to thrill young and old alike. His athletic and explosive aerobatic demonstration is clearly at the world championship level. Action-packed from start to finish, Matt captivates the air show audience with signature maneuvers and hard-core aerobatics that spectators will remember long after the show is over.

After an awesome performance in the air, Matt continues to connect with the crowd on the ground, signing autographs, answering questions, and encouraging personal interaction with the audience.

Watch Matt fly once and you'll be hooked! A truly unforgettable performance by one of the top pilots of our day.
